Summer's still here and the time is still right for an eclectic range of music, theater and dance.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Aug. 17-18 at Conner Prairie Amphitheatre
Just in case you run out of things to say while you wait for the latest incarnation of The Glenn Miller Orchestra to swing into its first number at Conner Prairie this weekend, here are some conversation

re-starters.

"What's with the extra n?"

"If your train left the Pennsylvania Station 'bout a quarter to four, how long before you're in Baltimore?"

"The band's latest musical director, Larry O'Brian, used to tour with Pia Zadora. I wonder what that was like."

"I know what Pennsylvania 6-5000 was the phone number for and you don't?" (In case you don't, it was New York's Hotel Pennsylvania.)

"What was a better use of the Glenn Miller classic 'In the Mood': Steven Spielberg's '1941' or that one episode of "Gilmore Girls"?

"With Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, Bob Marley and other deceased legends, there are consistent rumors of their being alive. Why not with Miller, whose airplane mysteriously disappeared without a trace in 1944?"

"James Stewart played him in 'The Glenn Miller Story' back in 1953. Who would play him in a remake?"

"Why did Glenn Miller Orchestra musical director 'Peanuts' Hucko only last for eight months back in 1974. I mean, if your company were run by a guy named Peanuts, wouldn't you want him to stick around as long as possible?"

Of course, rather than talking, you could be dancing. Prior to the concert, complimentary dance lessons will be offered beginning at 7:15 p.m. For more details on the concert, click here.

"The Hunchback of Notre Dame," Aug. 17-18
at Pike Performing Arts Center

Victor Hugo's story of a deformed bellringer and the gypsy woman he loves has been the source of remarkably diverse interpretations over the years. Lon Chaney's silent wretch is dramatically different than Charles Laughton's 1930s interpretation. Anthony Quinn's take on Quasimodo is very different from Anthony Hopkins' TV-movie persona. And none of them are quite like the schizophrenic-but-often-remarkably-soaring Disney animated version.

So while there seems to be some major obstacles in interpreting this story through dance (at the risk of stating the obvious, the main guy's got a massive, you know, hump), there are certainly bigger-than-life, elemental emotions at work in the story, which should give the Gregory Hancock Dance Theatre plenty to draw on when it revives its version this weekend. Bayside, Aug. 16 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom
The talent lineup at this year's massive GenCon event isn't just song parodists transposing "Lord of the Rings" characters onto familiar hits. For full preview, click here.

"After Paul McCartney," Aug. 19 at Butler University Theatre
With a full production of David Hoppe's play staged here so recently, why is it being done again this Sunday? For full preview, click here.

B-Movie Celebration, Aug. 17-19 at various locations in Franklin
They used to call them B-movies—implying that viewers should go in with sub-par expectations. What then, to make of a whole weekend festival of such films? For full preview, click here.
